Common Questions from Customers

How often should I be tuning my piano?
A piano should be tuned a minimum of once a year. Tuning greatly depends on the condition of the piano, the humidity & temperature fluctuations of the environment the piano is in, and how often the piano is played. Pianos can go out of tune at any time. The main causes for a piano to go out of tune are:
1. Loose tuning pins
2. Change in humidity
3. The piano has not been tuned for several years.
Note: Older pianos will most likely go out of tune much quicker than newer pianos.

What is the overall condition of my piano?
At the time of tuning, I will let the customer know the overall condition of the piano. I believe it is very important that a piano technician is honest with the customer and doesn't sugar coat the current condition of the piano. The piano is a machine with thousands of parts. There are many issues that can arise as the piano ages.

What would you do if this was your piano? Fix it, sell it, or dump it?
Pianos decrease in value over time. This is due to the deterioration of the wood, felt and metal. I will let the customer know the current cost of parts and labor for a repair or multiple repairs. The customer can then make an informed decision what they would like to do with their current piano.
